This weekend I worked with Zach Strauss on a project. Here are some photos of the progress of making these African Masai Shields.
I found some Masai shields at the Hand Prop Room that were really amazing. The owner of HPR went to Africa and picked up a bunch of African pieces; shields, sculptures,masks, tools, etc. Some of them date back to the 20’s and 30’s. They’re amazing and so expensive to rent. With budgetary constraints on the project and always pushing a handmade element in the production design I do, I decided to abstract the Masai shields and invent some new ones. Although, not as legit as the ones at HPR, here they are.
